SIDN: Dutch phishing sites were online for an average of 19 hours in 2021 – IT Pro – News

The average lifespan of Dutch phishing sites or .nl websites with malware was 19 hours in 2021. SIDN writes this in its annual report. In 2020, the average lifespan was 22 hours, and in 2019, such sites were up and running for an average of 30 hours.

According to the Netherlands Internet Domain Registration Foundation, the .nl domain is one of the safest top-level domain names in the world. The SIDN refers to a European study from the beginning of 2022 and a scam advisor investigation† To keep it that way, the foundation says it takes various measures. One of these is the so-called abuse204.nl program, which collaborates with hosting providers and registrars to detect .nl phishing sites or Dutch websites that contain malware as quickly as possible and in some cases take them offline. Last year, according to SIDN, this resulted in an average lifespan of .nl phishing sites and Dutch websites with malware of 19 hours.

The foundation writes in his annual report also that it had 6,232,829 registered .nl domain names on December 31, 2021, which was 120,729 more than on the same day in 2020. ‘Although the .nl domain grew less rapidly in 2021 than the year before, the number of new .nl domain registrations exceed expectations’, it sounds.
