Meuleman also disagrees with the content of the resolution. “We feel that the VRT is being kept small,” she says. “This is to the detriment of a strong VRT, which we have seen has been a beacon of confidence for many people during the corona crisis.”
She also fears that the VRT will be used to spread the Flemish canon. “That is the first time that the government has interfered with the content of the VRT.” Meulemans fears that the “Flemish nationalist stamp” is too strong.
She announces her party’s opposition to the plans of the majority and wants to submit a resolution with Groen with completely different emphases: better financing of the VRT, without “canonization”, more attention to the fight against fake news. “But there will probably be little debate and that is a pity,” said Meuleman.
