Shining Bright: Cyclists Lights up Montluçon Urban Hike for Visibility and Safety

Front and rear lights, wheel lights, illuminated helmets, pedal reflectors, flashing reflectors, reflective clothing and other light garlands for the occasion… The cyclists who came to participate in an urban hike in Montluçon, at the invitation of the association of promotion of gentle travel Cyclopède, shone brightly this Saturday, November 4 in the evening.

A night tour in the city center

Around fifteen two-wheelers were at Place Jean-Jaurès, for the start of this nighttime route passing through the city center, the Saint-Pierre bridge, the Ville Gozet, avenue Jules-Guesde then the bridge of the islands. With the aim of being as bright and therefore as visible as possible to motorists. Around fifteen cyclists took part in this urban hike passing in particular by the Saint-Pierre bridge.

“We organized this urban hike, as close as possible to the time change, as part of the major national campaign of the French Federation of Bicycle Users: Cyclists, shine!” explains Brigitte Berdugo, member of Cyclopède. A first in Montluçon. The aim is to make cyclists aware of the importance of lighting to travel safely at night.

“This is an opportunity to discuss and distribute brochures which remind you of the compulsory equipment and the equipment recommended for cyclists at night and when visibility is insufficient.”

A full-fledged mode of travel

Brigitte Berdugo continues: “The cycling culture is developing. More and more people are cycling every day. It’s not just leisure, it’s a mode of travel in its own right all year round. And in winter too, despite the fog and the night which arrives much earlier. We therefore have to be as visible as possible. But the interest of this urban hike is also to show motorists that we are still there, even at this time.” And therefore call on them, like the rest of the year, to be vigilant. The Cyclopède association awarded the prize for the brightest bike to this two-wheeler and these little passengers.
