SINGAPORE – Coach Indonesian National Team, Shin Tae-yong, wants the Garuda Squad to beat Singapore in the semifinal II leg AFF Cup 2020 without going through a penalty shootout. Because, it was not in the plan of the South Korean tactician.
The comments of Shin Tae-yong, who wants the Indonesian national team to win the match before the penalty shootout, caught the attention of Singaporean media, The Straits Times. However, they seemed to have misunderstood Shin Tae-yong’s intentions.
The Straits Times assessed that Shin Tae-yong had no plans for a penalty shoot-out so he wanted the match to end in normal time. In fact, the South Korean tactician only wanted the Garuda Squad to achieve positive results in 90 minutes.
“I don’t think the match will go to a penalty shootout. I want the game to be over before that,” said Shin Tae-yong in a virtual press conference, Saturday (12/25/2021).

“There is a possibility it will happen, but it was never in my plans,” he added.
Chances of a penalty shoot-out did exist after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw. However, it is better for both teams to win the match before extra time or penalties.
