Shin Tae Yong is still upset about Elkan Baggott having to self-quarantine

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Shin Tae Yong express annoyance regarding Elkan Baggott forced to quarantine and absent when Indonesian National team Vietnam held a draw in the 2020 AFF Cup Group B match (2021) at Bishan Stadium, Singapore, Wednesday (15/12).

In accordance with the promise made by Shin Tae Yong in the press conference before the match against Vietnam, the South Korean coach will reveal the problems facing the Indonesian national team ahead of the match.

As predicted, Shin Tae Yong will talk about Elkan Baggott who was forced to miss the Vietnam match because he was forced to undergo self-quarantine. The South Korean coach was still annoyed that Baggott could not play against Vietnam.

“Our key player in defense, Elkan Baggott, has to undergo quarantine. After the match against Laos he had to undergo quarantine. I don’t understand, because before entering Singapore he had undergone a PCR test and there was no problem,” said Shin Tae Yong after fighting Vietnam.

“Then one person on the plane tested positive for Covid-19, and Elkan did another PCR test and the result was negative. Then they checked the contact history, but the fact is that since he arrived in Singapore, he has been in contact with all team members while doing joint activities starting from breakfast, lunch, dinner,” said Shin Tae Yong.

Shin Tae Yong said Baggott’s absence made Indonesia’s defense line not optimal against Vietnam. This condition made Shin Tae Yong decide to play five defenders at the beginning of the match.

“But then suddenly they put our important players in quarantine so Elkan can’t play in this match. I can’t understand. Because we lost important players in our defense, our defense is not of the best quality,” said Shin Tae Yong.

Baggott is scheduled to undergo quarantine until Saturday (18/12). If the PCR test results are negative at the end of quarantine, the 19-year-old defender will certainly be able to strengthen Indonesia against Malaysia in the final match of Group B of the AFF Cup, Sunday (19/12).

The Indonesian national team only needs a draw against Malaysia to ensure a move to the semifinals of the AFF Cup.
