Shea Weber’s future in Montreal called into question

The 36-year-old has reportedly been dragging his thumb, foot and hip injuries for a while. This is what the traditional end-of-season medical assessment would have revealed today.

This information was reported by Renaud Lavoie (TVA Sports), Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet) and Pierre LeBrun (TSN).

However, the Canadian has not provided any update on his player’s state of health so far.

In 2018, Weber had two operations to repair the tendons in his left foot first and then to treat a tear in the meniscus in his right knee.

In the playoffs, the great defenseman played despite a thumb injury that had forced him to miss the last eight games of the regular season.

On July 9, head coach Dominique Ducharme indicated that the injury would possibly require an operation, but that it would not prevent the captain from returning to his post for the start of the season.

According to Lavoie, the defender could miss the whole of the next season due to persistent lower body problems.

The Canadian’s No. 6 was named captain on June 18, 2019, following the departure of Max Pacioretty. He played 275 of his 1,038 career games in the Bleu-blanc-rouge uniform.

He has collected 589 points since the start of his career. With 224 goals, he sits 15th all-time for the number of goals scored by a defenseman in the National Hockey League (NHL). He reached the plateau of 1000 games played on February 2.

The British Columbia native won two Olympic gold medals with Canada, in Vancouver in 2010 and in Sochi in 2014.

Weber in another uniform?

Lavoie also mentioned on Twitter that the Canadiens might not even protect Weber in the next expansion draft.
