She sends her iPhone for repair at Apple, her nudes end up on Facebook

Is the privacy of Apple users guaranteed? An article by The Telegraph suggests otherwise. In 2016, a young student in Oregon was the victim of a privacy breach. After she handed her iPhone to Pegatron, an Apple Authorized Repairer, her nudes in her smartphone were shared on Facebook.

Apple had to spend several million dollars to compensate the student and silence her.

The photos were posted directly on the young woman’s Facebook wall. It was her relatives who warned her of their existence. She wanted to take the case to court before Apple made arrangements to avoid a scandal.

Pegatron technicians who repaired his iPhone were fired after an investigation.

The young woman’s lawyer warned the apple brand of the repercussions that a lawsuit could cost them. If Apple got away with not going before the judges, this case shows that its monopoly on the refurbishment of its products can have serious consequences.

Nudes worth millions of dollars

Ten photos of the victim “Undressing” were shared on his own Facebook account. Worse, a “Sexy video was also published on his page, in view of all his contacts, enough to lead to a lawsuit against those responsible.

His legal representative demanded $ 5 million from the repair company. The grounds for this request corresponded to emotional trauma. Apple paid a substantial sum to avoid going to court and compensate the young woman.

If the exact amount has not been revealed, several million dollars have been raised during this case.

Why can’t Apple users retype their smartphone on their own?

If iPhone users could fix their device wherever they want, Apple wouldn’t have had to compensate this student.

The apple brand believes, however, that it is only authorized repairers who can restore defective devices. The protection of user privacy is only supposed to be in good hands with its subcontractors.

The young woman signed a confidentiality agreement in return for her compensation. It was when Pegatron’s insurer declined reimbursement that the case came into the limelight. Suffice to say that the millions of dollars will only be used for a few years.
