Sharp fall in e-commerce | Finansavisen

This week, Salesforce came out with a recent survey which showed that e-commerce in the Nordic region fell by 11 percent, compared with the same period last year.

Traffic to Nordic online stores was down 3 per cent, while the number of online orders fell by 10 per cent. 70 percent of the traffic to online stores came from mobile phones, as well as 65 percent of orders.

According to Salesforces, the conversion rate to online stores in the Nordic region averaged 1.7 percent. On average, customers spent NOK 850 per. order.

Inflation, supply chain problems, rising electricity and fuel prices, and not least the ongoing war in Ukraine are affecting the consumer wallet. The decline in e-commerce in the first quarter may be an indication that we will soon experience a major shift in consumer optimism we have had in the last two years, says Sales Director Rune Reikerås in Salesforce, and continues:

For retailers, this may mean that they should take a fresh look at campaigns planned for the year, and find the balance between stimulating demand and optimizing margins. Tighter budgets in private can also force retailers to offer large discounts and flexible payment options, such as “Buy now, pay later”. It can provide valuable and necessary flexibility and security for customers. It will also be important for dealers to reduce or eliminate friction between physical and digital channels in order to attract and retain loyal customers, says Reikerås.
