Sharon Stone reveals producer’s controversial advice on co-star

Hollywood actress Sharon Stone has opened up about producer Robert Evans advising her to have a sexual relationship with co-star Billy Baldwin in order to enhance their on-screen chemistry for their 1993 film, “Sliver.” Stone, known for her role in “Basic Instinct,” talks about her encounters with powerful men in a recent episode of “The Louis Theroux Podcast”. According to Stone, Evans believed that a sexual relationship between Stone and Baldwin would improve Baldwin’s performance and ultimately save the movie.

Stone recalls one particular meeting with Evans, stating, “He is running around his office in sunglasses explaining to me that he slept with Ava Gardner and I should sleep with Billy Baldwin, because if I slept with Billy Baldwin, Billy Baldwin’s performance would get better.” Stone citied Evans’ alleged viewpoint that she, as an actress, should be able to have sexual relationships to enhance her performance.

Stone expressed her discontent with the situation, stating, “The real problem was I was such a tight ass.” Baldwin, who is yet to comment on Stone’s claims, pointed out on social media, “Not sure why Sharon Stone keep talking about me all these years later? Does she still have a crush on me or is she still hurt after all these years because I shunned her advances?… I have so much dirt on her, it would make her head spin, but I’ve kept quiet.”

Background and aftermath

At the time of the incident with Evans, Stone was basking in the success of her role in “Basic Instinct.” While the movie “Sliver” achieved moderate success, grossing $116 million worldwide, Stone’s memoir “The Beauty of Living Twice,” released in 2021, provides more insight into the incident in which she did not explicitly name Evans. Stone emphasized that they could have simply cast a co-star with talent to tackle the supposed chemistry issue, rather than relying on her to have a sexual relationship. She particularly mentioned that it was her job to act, not to fulfil other inappropriate expectations.

Stone, known for her outspokenness on various topics, has also been vocal about her experiences with sexual harassment in the industry. In a separate revelation on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast, Stone shared an incident from the 1980s where a former Sony executive exposed himself to her during a general meeting.

Stone remarked, “I went to his office and it was, you know, back in the eighties, so the couch was basically on the floor, you know?… He came walking right up in front of me and he said, ‘But first…’ and he took his penis right out in my face.” She added that the incident made her laugh, cry, and become hysterical, emphasizing that it was not an isolated experience.

In the podcast episode “The Louis Theroux Podcast,” Stone shared her encounters with oppressive men in positions of power, including Harvey Weinstein, whom she called a “pig” and expressed her satisfaction about his imprisonment as a convicted rapist.
