A storm front with heavy local rain caused flooding in Upper Austria’s western districts of Braunau and Vöcklabruck from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday. The water masses were “hardly manageable”, it said at the fire department.
The result was more than 120 deployments of 30 weirs only in the areas of St. Pantaleon and Zell am Moos. The St. Georgen (Flachgau) volunteer fire brigade also moved to neighborly relief effort out.
Numerous storm operations in Upper Austria
Within a short period of time, fields in the two regions mucked up or washed away roads and numerous cellars were flooded with water and mud. The weirs had “their hands full” all night, the fire department continued. On Monday morning, ten weirs were still there to repair the damage.
