The Portuguese justice wants to examine “cases of professional football carried out from 2015 and which would have involved actions intended to avoid tax payments due to the Portuguese State”. The public prosecutor named this “Operation out of play”, in order to fight against transfers with modified sums of money. If this is proven, prosecution for “aggravated tax fraud and money laundering” would be envisaged, as stated by the public prosecutor’s office of the Portuguese Republic.
