Square Enix revealed that it plans to announce “several” new titles around July and August. As reported by Gematsu, the company was asked about its plans for the year at a recent shareholders meeting, to which it reiterated that due to event cancellations resulting from Covid-19, the games will be announced individually. The first batch should be revealed from next month.
A translation of the questions and answers courtesy of Gematsu is as follows:
Question: Normally, you would be announcing new games at E3, but how has the coronavirus affected your plans this year?
Reply: We would normally announce new games at E3, yes. We had planned to hold a press conference as a back-up event, but we were unable to do so because the resources were not complete. We will announce new titles individually if the timing allows. Many will start between July and August.
Square Enix is also expected to make a digital appearance at the next Tokyo Game Show.
At the end of May, Square Enix declared that it did not intend to organize its own digital events instead of the canceled showcases, because Covid-19 had prevented the company from setting up something in coordination with its dispersed teams geographically.
“Our group will not be broadcasting its own event live as the coronavirus pandemic will prevent us from gathering all the visuals from different studios and titles,” said Square Enix. “We intend to unveil new titles in the future on an individual basis at the appropriate time. “
