Several models of Nissan and Renault in Mexico are calling for review

The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) called for a review of almost 100,000 years of ten Nissan models for possible misfires and two Renault models for errors in air bags.

Nissan, of Japanese origin, has called for review 99 thousand 124 units of the Frontier 2017, Urvan 2017, Tiida 2017 and 2018, March 2017 and 2018, Versa 2017 and 2018, and NP300 2017 and 2018 models, Profeco explained in a statement .

The alert “is due to a possible malfunction of the ignition ‘switch'”, which can reduce the durability of the vehicle after years of normal use.

“In extreme cases, under specific vibrating conditions, the key could potentially move from the ‘ON’ position while the vehicle is in motion,” Profeco warned.

In this case, he said, Nissan will inspect and change the mechanical key switch at no cost to consumers.

In a separate statement, the attorney general’s office reported the review of 6,384 units of the Renault Duster 2019 and Oroch 2019 vehicles, because “the driver’s front airbag may have been installed incorrectly.”

This, warned the dependency, could affect its operation.

“For this reason, the automotive firm indicated that it will carry out the review of the vehicles to corroborate the bag’s manufacturing number and, if it is on the list of affected units, it will be replaced,” Profeco explained.

Both reviews, begun last week, will be valid indefinitely and at no cost to users, said the attorney general’s office, which has not reported any related incident.

Nissan, with four plants in Mexico, employs more than 15,000 people in the country with almost 270,000 vehicles in 2019, according to the Mexican Association of Automotive Dealers (AMDA).

With a market share of 20.3%, it is the best-selling brand in Mexico.

Its factory in the state of Aguascalientes is considered Nissan’s largest vehicle-producing plant, and its Morelos plant was the first it built outside of Japan.
Renault has just 2.5% of the market share, but in 2019 it sold 5,106 units more than the previous year for a total of 32,890, according to AMDA.
