Several cities attacked – air alert in large parts of Ukraine

KYIV, UKRAINE (Aftenposten): New massive missile attack in Ukraine.

Residents of Kyiv’s capital once again had to seek shelter from Russian missiles on Friday. Russia launched a large, comprehensive missile attack on several Ukrainian cities on Friday morning.

Residents of Kyiv woke up to a power outage on Friday morning.

The company DTEK announced that the electricity was switched off throughout the city to save electricity. The reason was a possible new massive missile attack.

Before nine o’clock, the flight alarm echoed through the capital’s streets. An hour later, the first explosions rang out. Local authorities report that the air force is working to shoot down Russian missiles. So far, it is unclear whether anything in the city has been hit.

But in a number of other cities, the Russian missiles are said to have slipped through Ukraine’s air defenses.

The Ukrainian Telegram channel posted this image, which purports to show the tracks in the air of Russian missiles headed for Ukraine. The image is not georeferenced.

Several cities under attack

Local authorities report that infrastructure has been hit in the big city of Kharkiv. 17 airstrikes have been reported in Zaporizhzhya in the space of an hour on the night of Friday.

– Unknown extent of damage, but the attacks were aimed at power supply and critical infrastructure. This is reported by the city’s acting mayor, Anatoly Kurtev.

  • Explosions are reported from the cities of Kryvyi Rih, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhya, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi and Lviv. The Ukrainian newspaper writes that Liga.net.
  • The city of Dnipro has also been subject to drone attacks. But these are said to have been shot down by the Ukrainian Air Force.
  • So far, it is unclear exactly how many missiles Russia has fired on Friday morning.

Millions of Ukrainians lost power

The aim of the Russian terrorist bombing against civilian targets is to weaken the Ukrainian will to fight.

– We have damage to a number of infrastructure sites in the east, west and south, which leads to power cuts in several places.

This is reported by Ukrenergo.

But we are unlikely to know the total, real damage any time soon. The Ukrainians keep a complete lid on this. The reason is that Russia should not be able to use such information to carry out new attacks.

Fragments of the parts of a rocket are said to have hit a block in Kyiv. From Kharkiv there are reports of at least seven injured civilians.

The last time Russia carried out a massive missile attack against Ukraine was on 26 January.

Friday’s attack marks the eleventh time Ukrainian infrastructure has been attacked since October 10.

This is how the Russian attack takes place

The first cruise missiles were fired from Russian TU-95 strategic bombers.

In addition, the Russians attacked with Kalibr missiles from the Black Sea. Three Russian warships with up to 20 Kalibri missiles were in positions out in the Black Sea when the attack began.

There are also reports that missiles may have been fired from Russian aircraft from Belarus.

Three waves of Russian missiles have come in from the Russian warships in the Black Sea.

This is reported by Vitalij Kim, as governor of the Mykolaiv region south of the Black Sea.

As the Russian missiles flew over Mykolaiv, Governor Vitaly Kim posted this Telegram message.

His reaction to the new, massive missile attack illustrates how Ukrainians are trying to respond to the Russian terrorist bombing – with humor.

– While the missiles are flying over us, we are working on asphalting the roads, Kim writes Telegram.
