Several cases of dengue fever reported in M’tsamboro / Hamjago: the ARS intervenes and

The rainy season is conducive to the proliferation of mosquitoes responsible for several vector-borne diseases, such as malaria, chikungungunya and dengue. And it is precisely dengue fever that is raging right now in Mtsamboro in the North of the island.

Since December 16, 15 new cases of dengue fever have been reported in Mayotte, including 13 in M’tsamboro / Hamjago. To prevent new outbreaks of dengue fever from developing, the ARS works on the ground with local populations. It calls on everyone to be vigilant and mobilize to stop any spread.

ARS with the people of M’tsamboro

Agents of the Anti Vectorial Service (LAV), recognizable by their blue polo shirts with the acronym of the ARS, have intervened several times in recent days in M’tsamboro and Hamjago, and will intervene there again in the coming days. In direct contact with the population, they precisely identify the homes of people affected by dengue fever and intervene with the family and the neighborhood: They explain with pedagogy how to protect themselves from mosquitoes, identify possible “secondary cases”, have the potential breeding places (containers, tires, household waste, car carcasses). LAV agents then carry out insecticide treatment within a 50-meter radius around the homes concerned.
The intervention of the ARS is necessary, but it is not enough: at the start of the rainy season, it calls on the inhabitants and the various territorial actors to be vigilant, and ask them to mobilize, by adopting the right actions, without which no prevention is effective.

REMINDER: What is dengue?

The right moves to fight dengue fever

  • Gesture n ° 1: “Protect yourself from mosquito bites”

The most effective way to protect yourself from mosquito bites is to wear long-sleeved clothes, apply skin repellents, and use mosquito nets to sleep. The mosquito carrying dengue is active during the day and mainly in the morning and in the evening.
Warning ! If the mosquito bites a sick person, it becomes contaminating and can transmit the disease to a healthy person. This is why people with dengue fever should especially protect themselves from mosquito bites.

  • Gesture n ° 2: “Eliminate standing water”

Mosquitoes multiply by laying their eggs in containers and objects containing water. To combat the proliferation of mosquitoes, these breeding places must be eliminated, or emptied every week.

  • Gesture n ° 3: “Consult a doctor in case of symptoms”

The symptoms which must lead to consult his doctor are:
– high fever
– headaches
– muscle and / or joint pain
– a feeling of great fatigue.

The doctor will be able to establish a rapid diagnosis and ensure appropriate management to limit severe forms.
