The European Car of the Year 2021 competition has entered its second phase. Just a couple of weeks after posting a list of 29 candidate cars The jury drew up a shortlist of finalists. It includes seven cars: Citroen C4, Cupra Formentor, Fiat 500, Land Rover Defender, Skoda Octavia, Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen ID.3.
It is noteworthy that there are three Volkswagen models in the final seven. Also among the leaders are two electric vehicles, and there is also a battery version in the Citroen C4 range. But the most surprising thing is that Defender, an expensive and relatively low-circulation SUV, aimed at a rather narrow audience, made it to the final. By the way, only Defender and Octavia are represented on the Russian market out of seven finalists, although this year the new Citroen C4 should also reach us.
At the end of February, a jury of 60 journalists will determine the winner, who will be announced on March 1. Since last year, Russia has been represented in the jury of the Car of the Year competition by the deputy editor-in-chief of Autoreview Sergey Znaemsky and journalist Vadim Ovsyankin. And the Peugeot 208 hatchback became the winner of the Car of the Year 2020 competition.
