Now it’s official: The online giant Amazon is establishing itself in the form of an international logistics center in Hof-Gattendorf. This was announced by the press office of the Landratsamt Hof on Friday (June 26, 2020). The automotive supply and technology park HochFranken approved the land purchase agreement last Wednesday.

The necessary earthworks will now be carried out on 22 hectares between July and October 2020. The costs amount to around twelve million euros. For District Administrator Oliver Br, the logistics center represents an opportunity for new jobs. “The location of the company will have a significant relevance to work. We are assuming – also in accordance with the building application – that more than 1000 jobs will be created.”

The district administrator also hopes that the logistics center will generate more interest in the Hof region. According to Br, Amazon’s interest in the Hof area should best attract more companies to the area.

Mayor Dhla emphasized that the region is well positioned for the future, even in difficult times, thanks to strong investments. Gattendorf’s mayor Stefan Mller also hopes that the jobs will bring people to the Hof region.

Online retailers on an expansion course? According to media reports, the US company Amazon is planning a new logistics center in Hof in Upper Franconia. According to this, the establishment of the center of the region could bring about 1000 additional jobs.

Amazon describes its warehouses as logistics centers. The complete processing of customer orders takes place in these. The goods are delivered by the manufacturers and sent directly to the customers.

The move to Hof would create another Amazon location in Franconia: it was only at the end of last year that Amazon opened a sorting center in Eggolsheim in the Forchheim district. A new distribution center is also planned for Bayreuth – there are also corresponding plans for Nuremberg.

Amazon logistics center in Hof: Confirmation is pending so far

“Frankenpost”, “Kurier” and “Bayerischer Rundfunk” reported on the logistics center apparently being built in Hof. The site should therefore find its place in the supplier park Hof-Gattendorf. However, there is currently no official confirmation from the city of Hof or from Amazon itself.

Rainer Krau, spokesman for the media office of the city of Hof, asked for understanding that he could not say anything about the cause at the moment. He wanted existing plans for the Amazon settlement in Hof opposite inFranken.de neither confirm nor deny.

The online retailer himself also remains covered: Amazon has made no announcement about this and therefore cannot help, said Stephan Eichenseher from the group’s press department on request from inFranken.de in writing with.

If the logistics center is actually built in Hof, this will only be confirmed after the building permit has been granted and about six months before commissioning, an Amazon spokesman said to the “Bayerischer Rundfunk”.
