Sergio Perez “There was no dashboard display due to electrical problems” / Red Bull F1 Mexico GP qualifying[F1-Gate.com]

Sergio Perez called qualifying for his home race in Mexico a “complete mess”, revealing that his Red Bull RB18 suffered electrical problems during the session.

Sergio Pérez had to race with no lap times or other information displayed on the dashboard, but was relieved to finally recover and secure fourth place on the grid for Sunday’s race.

Also, despite being seventh in Q1, he also had problems with the DRS due to an electrical problem. The problem was fixed in a later session.

Sergio Perez, who passed Q2 in 5th place, moved up one place in Q3.

“It was a mess, a complete mess,” said Sergio Perez of qualifying.

“We had an electrical problem right from the start. Looking back on qualifying, we were almost eliminated in Q1 and Q2. There was no reference to move forward, no lap times shown.”

“Sometimes I didn’t know where the brake balance was, so I was completely confused, but in the end I don’t think fourth place is the worst, but I’m sure we could have been higher.”

When asked about the problem with the DRS in Q1, Sergio Perez said: “It all had to do with the electrical problems we had during qualifying.”

“Basically, we didn’t have a reference for lap times or anything like that. The DRS is back. It was just the electrical system that didn’t come back. I’m sure we can fix it for the race.”

Sergio Perez admitted that it was especially painful to endure such a difficult session in his home event.

“Of course, if there’s a qualifying where you want everything to be perfect, it’s this qualifying. Especially considering how close we were to pole position, it would have been a lot better than we’ve ever been,” said Sergio Perez.

But Sergio Perez thinks he can use the traditional Mexico City tow to gain an advantage in the first lap.

“I think we can do a lot for tomorrow and we will give our all,” added Sergio Perez.

“I really want to win tomorrow, so let’s do our best up to Turn 1 and see what happens.”

Asked if he intends to be aggressive, Sergio Perez said: “Yes, mainly going to turn 1! After that it can be a bit chaotic with the stops, so it will be important. I would,” he replied.
