Sergio Perez “Ferrari and Mercedes look strong” / F1 Mexico GP Friday free race Red Bull[F1-Gate.com]

The weekend of the F1 Mexican Grand Prix has finally begun, which will be Sergio Perez’s home race. Looking back at the free practice of the Hermanos Rodriguez Autodrome.

In 2021 Sergio made history by becoming the first Mexican driver to get on the podium in his home Grand Prix, but 2022 will see him aim even higher.

The Mexico City GP presents a different challenge for both the drivers and the cars. The Hermanos Rodriguez Autodrome is located at 2,285 m above sea level, so the air is thin, making the weekend “breathless” for everyone.

The circuit has a long and rich history and the course layout largely retains its original design in 1959. One notable section that has changed from the original design is Peralta, a fast corner now split into two sections.

The final of the 2022 Mexico City Grand Prix will take place over 71 laps of a 4.304 km circuit with a distance of 305.354 km. The current lap record is 1: 17.774 set by Valtteri Bottas in the 2021 season.

“It has been a difficult day to make predictions, as is always the case in Mexico at sea level, because there is a lot of stuff in the air,” said Perez.

“It’s easy to go wrong in these conditions, so overall I think it’s been a decent day. Ing”

“FP2s have few references due to tire testing, but the conditions are the same for everyone. Our pace was good in FP1 and it looks like we will be competitive. Ferrari and Mercedes look strong, so tomorrow’s qualifying will be a battle challenge. tough”.
