The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) intends to send the names of millions of people, pets and imaginary people to the red planet.
The names will be laser-engraved on a microchip that will be part of one of the future missions to Mars. At the time of this article, 23.5 million applicants from around the world have applied to fly their name into space.

Just fill out the form to get your name on the way to Mars a simple form on the NASA website. You are required to enter your first and last name and the country you come from. If you choose to provide your email address, you will become a member of NASA’s “loyalty club” and receive over a billion free loyalty miles.
After pressing the button Send my name to Mars you will receive a boarding pass that you can download, print or paste into the website. From it, it can be read that the mission will take off from the American Cape Canaveral and, after traveling 1.7 billion kilometers, will land in the area of the Martian crater Jezero. The date of the planned departure will be announced later.

This is not the first time that the US space agency has offered a flight of fans’ names to the red planet. The last time it did so was when it used an electron beam to write 10,932,295 names onto three silicon chips the size of a fingernail, which were attached to the Perseverance rover, which landed on Mars in 2020. Since then, they have been on Mars on the still-active rover, helping to search water and evidence of past life.
Why are people’s names sent into space?
To maintain public interest, NASA and other space agencies often sponsor outreach programs designed to engage the non-scientific population. Showed that sending people’s names to distant space locations is an effective way to foster interest and goodwill.
