Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk dismissed out of hand the possibility of the team trading their two “best” first-round picks for the first overall pick.
“The idea of trading the third and fifth pick for the first pick is nonsense,” Melnyk said in an email to Postmedia. We are very excited to welcome several new players in the next draft. “
The New York Rangers won the second phase of the lottery last week and many expect them to claim Rimouski Oceanic forward Alexis Lafrenière in October.
The Senators slipped to third and fifth in the first phase of the lottery. In addition to their choice, they own that of the San Jose Sharks as well as that of the New York Islanders obtained in the exchange of Jean-Gabriel Pageau.
