Senate wants to get rid of cuts in youth care and disconnection of AOW | Inland

The House of Representatives had previously approved the plans. But the coalition parties VVD, D66, CDA and ChristenUnie do not have a majority in the Senate. Last week during the debate on the government statement, it became clear that the opposition from left to right was turning against some important plans of the cabinet. Just like the coalition, Forum for Democracy voted against the motions on Tuesday.

The cabinet wants to partially decouple the AOW. The old-age provision will then increase with inflation, but not with the minimum wage if it is increased. On this point, three motions were submitted by the PVV, 50PLUS and the Nanninga faction. The AOW has been linked to the minimum wage for 42 years.

By 8 March

GroenLinks party leader Paul Rosenmöller wants the cabinet to send a letter by March 8 at the latest in which it indicates how the most important motions will be implemented. The Senate wants consultations with the municipalities on the reform of youth care to continue, but without this being aimed at the cutbacks devised by the cabinet. Municipalities have to implement youth care and are angry about the cutbacks.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte had advised against the motions and did not want to make any promises about youth care and the state pension last week. He did, however, think that the purchasing power of the elderly and the availability of youth care still needed to be considered. The coalition wants to increase the minimum wage and social assistance to help people on the subsistence level. But it costs billions to also increase the state pension, which also benefits people with a good pension.

Motions by the PvdA and the Party for the Animals call on the cabinet to investigate options for compensation for students who have been disadvantaged by the student loan system. The coalition also wants to get rid of the loan system and plans to give the intended students 1000 euros. The Senate wants clarity about another compensation in three months.
