Senate eases corona isolation requirements in Berlin

The Berlin Senate has relaxed the requirements for corona isolation in Berlin. As a result, a negative corona test will no longer be necessary to end the isolation from 16 January.

The prerequisite for this is that the infection was detected five days ago and the person in question has had no symptoms for 48 hours. So far, the isolation can only be ended after five days if there is a negative rapid test in addition to being symptom-free.

In Tuesday’s meeting, the Senate also decided to end the requirement to wear masks in local public transport. As in Brandenburg, this should expire at the beginning of February 2nd. Instead of an obligation, there should be a recommendation to continue wearing a medical protective mask on trains and buses. All other protective measures, such as the isolation obligation in general and the obligation to wear a mask in medical facilities, will remain in force for the time being.

The Berlin Senate passed a correspondingly amended corona protection ordinance on Tuesday. It is initially valid until February 12th. It is not clear whether it will then expire or be extended again. According to information from Tagesspiegel, the Senate wants to discuss this again in early February.
