While blood pressure in intensive care is strong in Ile-de-France, medical evacuations are carried out to relieve teams in hospitals, including in Seine-et-Marne. After Meaux hospital, two patients with Covid-19 and admitted in intensive care at the Melun hospital center were transferred to the provinces on Monday, March 15, 2021.
From Melun to Tarbes and Cahors
“The ARS (Regional health agency, editor’s note) offered us transfers of intensive care patients, so we jumped at the chance, ”says Dominique Peljak, director of the Sud-Ile-de-France hospital group (GHSIF). Patients at Melun hospital were evacuated to hospitals from Tarbes and Cahors, in Occitanie.
“It’s a very cumbersome process which obviously requires the agreement of families,” explains the director. Both patients were transported by of the Smur teams (Mobile emergency and resuscitation service) from Seine-et-Marne to Orly airport (Val de Marne), before air transport to Toulouse airport.
General interest
“We must thank the resuscitation teams who have been on the bridge for over a year,” insists Dominique Peljak. These evacuations will help to relieve them a little. These transfers are also made possible by families who have thought of the general interest: it is not easy to send someone more than 800 km. “
According to hospital management, follow-up will be put in place to allow families to maintain a link, despite the distance. This is not the first time that evacuations have been carried out to less affected areas: last April, eight Seine-et-Marnais had been evacuated to provincial hospitals.
In Melun, as in the rest of Ile-de-France, the situation remains extremely tense in the intensive care units. This Friday, some 73 patients were hospitalized because of the Covid-19, of which 26 were taken care of in critical care services.
