According to her, the monthly salaries of the mayors of municipalities, districts, town halls and councilors are determined. By law, the basic ministerial salary is formed, and the basic deputy salary is increased by 30%.

Currently the basic salary of Yordanka Fandakova is BGN 2,900. However, if the remuneration is doubled, the salaries of the chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council, the municipal councilors themselves, as well as the regional mayors will be automatically raised.

At the same time, the salary of the mayor of Varna is about BGN 2,300, which is strange against the background of the salaries of municipal councilors and those of their chairman, which are usually a percentage of the mayor’s. In Varna, the monthly remuneration of the chairman of the municipal council is 90% of the salary of the mayor, and of the municipal councilors is 70% of the average gross salary in the municipal administration for the last month of the previous quarter. Thus, the municipalities in the sea capital receive about BGN 1,300 per month.

In determining the remuneration, the number of villagers was taken into account. Thus, the mayors of Kamenar and Topoli received BGN 1,740 each, and the villages of Zvezditsa and Konstantinovo – BGN 1,440 each.

The salary of the mayor of the smallest village in the municipality – Kazashko, amounts to BGN 1,320. The small difference between the mayor in a town like Topoli and the municipality of Varna can be seen as a risk factor for corruption, commented the municipalities. Therefore, it was proposed that the mayor of the large municipality receive at least BGN 5,000. However, the increase was postponed and will be decided during the discussion and adoption of the budget for 2022, because the salary of the mayor is determined on the basis of the salary of the council management, as well as the salaries of municipal councilors.

The salary of the mayor of Plovdiv Zdravko Dimitrov for 2021 is BGN 5,082, according to a reference in the decisions of the local Municipal Council, published on the official website. The decision of the local municipalities is from April 21, 2021. It also affects the salaries of the regional mayors of the six Plovdiv districts.
