Security Graz – city portal of the provincial capital Graz

Extensive maintenance work is being carried out in the Plabutsch tunnel in Graz on the A 9 Pyhrnautobahn, just in time for the expected heavy summer tourist traffic. In particular, the entire safety technology is checked, starting with the exhaust air shafts through to the hydrants, which can save lives in the event of a fire.

The work, which will involve a dozen ASFINAG employees and employees from six external companies, can only take place in a traffic-free tunnel. The ten kilometer long Plabutsch Tunnel will therefore be closed in both directions from Monday, June 20th to Friday morning, i.e. a total of four nights, and the following week on June 27th and 28th, between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. During this low-traffic period, traffic must be diverted through the city of Graz.

Among other things, the shaft inspection systems for the exhaust air shafts, all exhaust air flaps in the intermediate ceilings, all escape routes including the safety devices, the medium-voltage system, the entire sensor system and the water hydrants are checked on these nights. In addition, the Graz-Raaba motorway maintenance department uses the traffic-free time to renew the markings in the areas in front of the portal and to repair damage to the roadway.
