Secret space of domestic syringe ‘0.3ml’… Fill in the amount of vaccine discarded

As it was confirmed that the’Corona 19′ vaccine syringe developed by Korean companies could increase the number of vaccinations per vial (bottle) of the vaccine up to one or two more times than expected, a’green light’ turned on in the national vaccination process. The government estimates that it will be able to make up for the lack of vaccines that must be discarded inevitably during the vaccination process.

The vaccine is inoculated by injecting the dose of the vaccine in a vial with a syringe and then injecting it into the body. Usually, it is possible to inoculate several times per vial, but in this process, the quantity distribution is sometimes not well done, resulting in various disposal situations such as discarding the remaining amount or dropping the vial unintentionally.

However, on the 26th, the government confirmed that a certain amount of vaccine was left per vial than originally expected when using a domestic syringe developed with a special technology when inoculating the AstraZeneca vaccine for the first time. In this situation, until November’s formation of’collective immunity’, a limited vaccine must be met on time, and the additional vaccinations have been given the luck.

On the 27th, the Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team sent a letter to the vaccination medical site stating, “After vaccination, additional vaccinations are possible to reduce waste volume.”

For example, if the minimum residual syringe (LDS) is used, the amount of AstraZenega vaccine can be increased from 10 to 11-12 people per vial, and Pfizer vaccine can increase from 6 to 7 people. The LDS syringe is a special product that has little space between the piston and the needle to minimize discarded vaccine material. These are the products of Korean companies Shin-A Yanghaeng and Doowon Meditech.

Ki-Hyun Jung, director of the National Medical Center, said at the Pfizer vaccination site this morning, “If the frozen (vaccine) is thawed, there is about 0.45cc (0.45ml).” If the injection amount) is 0.3cc, 7 servings will come out.”

However, the government drew a line that it is not officially increasing the number of people who can receive vaccinations per vial.

Pfizer vaccine has already been applied for approval with 6 doses per vial, and the amount of vaccine contained in the syringe per vial may not be quantified depending on the skill of the nurse, so there is not necessarily one dose remaining per vial. It means that theory and practice are different.

Therefore, with this measure, additional administration is possible only when the remaining amount per vial is more than just’one dose’. Collecting and using the remaining amount of multiple vials is prohibited. It is not obligatory to administer the remaining dose.

The government made it clear that this is a measure to compensate for the amount of waste that might have been discarded for the purpose of this residual dose vaccination.

An official from the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, “If you take the AstraZeneca vaccine as an example, let’s inoculate the remaining amount even after inoculating one vial to 10 people.” Explained.

Jeong Gyeong-sil, head of the vaccination management team, “The government plan for the number of vaccinations does not change because the residual amount generation may vary depending on the nurse being vaccinated,” he said.
