Sebastian Vettel sent a beer to Red Bull’s young Max Verstappen, who broke his own record at the Mexican F1 GP and set a new record, “Aim for 16 Wins”.
Max Verstappen’s victory in Formula 1 Mexico was his 14th win of the season, breaking the 13-win record set by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel in 2004 and 2013 respectively.
Max Verstappen took his eighth win out of nine races and his seventh in Singapore was the only race he hadn’t won since second in Austria on 10 July.
After the race, Sebastian Vettel was delighted that Max Verstappen had broken his record, pushing him to take his total to 16 by winning the remaining two races of the season.
“He did well,” Sebastian Vettel told the media.
“I think he has had a terrible season and I hope he can go on and win 16 by the end of the year.”
“It’s great for Red Bull and I know some of the people who are still there, so I’m really happy for them.”
“They have a lot of momentum compared to last year and this year’s car is incredible.”
“They won the race despite being heavier than anyone else, and now I think they have finally lost weight.”
“So the car is there. But Max is doing a great job too.”
Sebastian Vettel himself finished ahead of Aston Martin teammate Lance Stroll at the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix, but the two finished 14th and 15th, in contrast to their recent points race.
Sebastian Vettel admitted that he did not understand the performance problems Aston Martin faced in Mexico.
“Strategically, if I want to go long, I know I can do it,” explained Sebastian Vettel of the first long stint on soft tires.
“I’ve been managing tires for years and I know what to do, but it didn’t help us, we thought we could do it”.
“I couldn’t start the car, it was slow. It’s not like we haven’t seen it all season, but compared to last week in Austin there is something we still don’t understand.”
