Scrooges getting richer and richer, for Forbes it’s a record year. Arnault confirms himself in the world, Giovanni Ferrero in Italy. Pignataro exploit

MILANO – The super-rich are more and more. And increasingly richer. The 2023 boom of the financial markets, capable of avoiding the monetary constraints of the central banks, the war in Ukraine which cannot find a solution and the one in Gaza which is nearing its end, the global uncertainties and the Chinese slowdowns, could only increase the assets of global Scrooges. Which in fact are, in the traditional Forbes ranking, at the record number of 2,781: 141 more than last year and 21 more than the previous peak marked in 2021.

What is even more impressive is the progression of their assets: the total of this troop has skyrocketed to 14,200 billion dollars, 2 thousand billion earned in just one year. Two-thirds of Scrooges find themselves richer today than a year ago. It’s as if an amount of wealth equal to our GDP had suddenly appeared in their portfolio. The 2021 record was also broken. Among other aspects: concentration increases. In the 100 billion club, a very small circle of those who can boast a wealth of one hundred billion dollars, there are now 14 people: four years ago there was only one. One wonders whether even among Scrooges we can look at each other with envy or complain about the excessive concentration of wealth: only 0.5% of the super-rich hold 14% of the total wealth.

As for the rankings, based on stock prices on March 8, the richest of all confirms himself as the patron of luxury LVMH, Bernard Arnaultwhich holds the crown for the second year in a row: 233 billion dollars in the farm, 22 billion more than in 2023. 38 billion dollars behind Elon Musk, which boasts about 195 billion dollars in its account. At one size, 1 billion, there is Jeff Bezos. of Amazon, at 194 billion dollars. TO Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s number one, with a jump of 116 billion goes to the person who recorded the greatest increase which earns him fourth place in the ranking (with 177 billion, a level he has never seen). Completing the top five is an old acquaintance of these rankings, Larry Ellison of Oracle at $141 billion.

Among the notes in the ranking, the fact that the richest in Russia managed to add 72 billion to their fortunes, bringing them overall to 577 billion. In defiance of sanctions and the international embargo. At the top of the Muscovite troop there is Vagit Alekperov, former president of Lukoil. And then, in the year of Artificial Intelligence, new billionaires stand out: Charles Liang of Super Micro Computer (6.1 billion) with his wife Sarah Liu ($1.5 billion); Lisa Su of Advanced Micro Device (1.3 billion); And Harvey Jones, who has been on the Nvidia board for some time. It also enters the rankings Sam Altman by OpenAI. Among the VIPs, the pop phenomenon could not be missing Taylor Swift who puts her head on Forbes in 2024: the first to do so only thanks to the related activities of her musical production and her Eras tour.
