Scoot Henderson Impresses in Summer League Debut Despite Shoulder Injury

Awaiting the Victor Wembanyama / Brandon Miller duel, it was Scoot Henderson who made his Summer League debut a few hours earlier in the night. Long-awaited, the pick 3 of this Draft 2023 answered present by achieving a good performance… until his exit on injury in the second half

The evening had started ideally for Scoot and the Blazers. With 13 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists at 5/7 shooting after the first quarter, the leader showed that he did not come to joke. Reverse layup, mid-range shot, 3 points… Scoot displayed part of his offensive palette in less than 10 minutes, despite a good defense from Amen Thompson on him.

The leader also did not fail to play around him. With 6 assists on the clock, he showed all his playmaking qualities and creation for others. We have seen him look for his backcourt friend Shaedon Sharpe on several occasions. Perhaps the start of a very nice connection in Oregon! In short, Scoot Henderson’s debut was not far from perfect, but his match then took a slightly more delicate turn.

After the first quarter, the pick 3 has indeed lost the offensive efficiency that had characterized its start to the match, chaining a 0/6 in shooting. A little back down to earth, as if to show that nothing is certain in the NBA. Nothing alarming however, Scoot especially suffered the adaptation of the defense of the Rockets which targeted him more and more over the course of the match. The real black point of his match is his injury during the third quarter. Hit in the right shoulder on a contact, Henderson returned to the locker room and never came out. Real alert or simple precaution? The MRI he will pass in the next few hours will tell us, but the Blazers obviously did not want to take any risks with their nugget. For the moment, optimism is in order according to insider Chris Haynes.

After Scoot’s exit, Shaedon Sharpe took over the Portland attack. With 20 points on the clock, the 2022 Draft pick 7 showed he was a cut above most other players on the court, even if he crunched a little (7/21 shooting). At the same time, which sophomore does not crunch in the Summer League? Sharpe also recalled that he was closer to a marsupial than a human, narrowly missing a windmill dunk on the counter-attack before posterizing Jay Huff, our dear Bastien’s official look-alike.

For the rest of the Blazers side, Jabari Walker and Kris Murray had an honorable performance with 15 and 10 points respectively. On the other hand, the evening was more difficult for our Frenchie Ryan Rupert, who did not know how to respond to the intensity put into this meeting.

Scoot Henderson’s debut was very convincing, but marred by a shoulder injury that saw him miss most of the second half. We hope to quickly have reassuring news and see him again on the floors of the Summer League!
