Scientists have identified the least vulnerable to coronavirus blood type – Science

TASS, June 12th. Holders of the first blood group are the least susceptible to infection with a coronavirus infection. This conclusion was reached by the specialists of the American biotechnological company 23andMe.

Preliminary results of their study, which was attended by more than 750 thousand people, showed that the first blood group (O) reduces the likelihood of infection by 9-18%. In this case, the Rh factor does not affect either vulnerability to the virus, or the severity of the course of the disease caused by it. Data are given adjusted for weight, gender, body mass index, ethnicity and associated pathologies.

At the same time, the company’s scientists did not reveal a significant effect of other blood groups on the degree of exposure of their carriers to coronavirus.

In May, the head of the Federal Biomedical Agency (FMBA) Veronika Skvortsova reported, which is most among people infected with coronavirus infection with the second blood group (A). European doctors and scientists in an article published in the bioRxiv electronic library said they found a mutation that makes the owners of the second blood group vulnerable to this virus.
