Scientists have found similarities between coronavirus and HIV – Search

04/16/2020

Anti-HIV drugs have proven effective in treating coronavirus infection. But this is not all that combines the coronavirus and the human immunodeficiency virus. It turns out that they equally attack the human immune system and cause damage to internal organs, similar to those observed in patients with HIV. This conclusion was reached by experts from Shanghai Fudan University and the New York Blood Center, reports South China Morning Post.

Scientists have studied the effects of coronavirus on laboratory-grown T-lymphocytes, which protect humans from cells with foreign antigens. They capture an infected cell and inject toxic substances into it that kill both the virus and the infected cell.

But during the experiment with coronavirus, everything went according to a different scenario. T-cells from defenders turned into victims. And what is even more interesting – scientists did not find such superpowers in previously known coronaviruses.

“More and more people are comparing him to HIV,” said the doctor, who asked not to be named because of the delicacy of the problem.

But that is not all. In February, Chinese scientists discovered that the number of T cells could be significantly reduced in patients with coronavirus, creating a deadly threat to humans. The observation was confirmed after opening more than 20 dead from coronavirus a person whose immunity was destroyed. According to doctors, the nature of the damage to internal organs was similar to the cases if the dead died from SARS and AIDS.
