Scientists Find Pfizer Vaccine Can Fight New Brazilian Corona Virus Variants

Suara.com – Laboratory tests have tested its effectiveness the Pfizer vaccine in fighting a new variant of the corona virus in Brazil. Scientists tested the blood of people who had been given the Pfizer vaccine injection.

They found that the blood was able to neutralize an engineered version of the virus similar to the P1 strain of Covid-19.

The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, also shows the ability of the Pfizer vaccine to deal with the new variant of the coronavirus is equivalent to its ability to fight the original variant.

The new findings from the Pfizer vaccine by the University of Texas Medical Brach are also expected to ease public concerns about the new variant of the Brazilian corona virus.

Because reported from The Sun, the new variant of the corona virus is believed to be more contagious because it contains mutations that make it able to neutralize antibodies and cause re-infection.

Last week, AstraZeneca reported that its buxis also works against a new variant of the Brazilian coronavirus.

Initial unpublished data suggests that the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine needs to be modified to protect against the new variant of the coronavirus.

Reports leaked to the public had shown that vaccines were less effective against the new variant of the corona virus, but the final results will be published at the end of March 2021.

The BRAZILIAN (P.1) variant carries three key mutations that affect the spike protein. The spike protein is a part of the virus, SARS-Cov-2, which attaches to human cells and allows the virus to infect the body.

As a result, it is part of the virus that the Covid-19 vaccine is designed to target. For this reason, scientists believe that even though the Covid-19 vaccine injection can still work, it is less effective against the new variants of the Brazilian and South African corona viruses.

Experts first detected the P.1 variant in Manaus, northern Brazil, in December 2020. This mutation is not yet known to cause severe conditions or not, but evidence suggests the mutation is more contagious.

Porton Down scientists are doing multiple analyzes to confirm the evidence, showing that the strain does not cause a higher death rate or affect the Covid-19 vaccine.

As with the South African coronavirus variant, a new variant of the Brazilian coronavirus carries a mutation in a spike protein called E484K, which is not present in the original British strain.

This E484K mutation was found in the new South African and Bristol coronavirus strains. The E484K mutation is thought to help the virus bypass the immune protection that builds up after vaccination.

Scientists analyzing this said the mutation was the same as the Brazilian and South African coronavirus variants, which appeared to be linked to a higher increase in cases.

Because of this, scientists feel the need to further investigate the increase in reinfection in people who have been infected or not.
