Scientists find benefits of plant juices and green tea in suppressing coronavirus and influenza – Science

Scientists from the University of Ulm (Germany) have found that the juice of some plants, as well as green tea, may be useful in suppressing the novel coronavirus and influenza. The conclusions of the scientists are published in an article in the electronic library bioRxiv.

Researchers have found that chokeberry and pomegranate juice and green tea have good antiviral properties. So, for example, after five minutes of treatment with chokeberry juice, the activity of the coronavirus decreases by 96%, and that of the flu – by 99%. When exposed to tea and pomegranate juice, the activity of the coronavirus decreased by 80%.

As scientists note, respiratory viruses initially accumulate in the nasopharynx area, where they subsequently intensify and spread throughout the body, but if they are suppressed at the initial stage, this can alleviate the symptoms of these diseases, prevent the spread through the respiratory tract, and also reduce the possibility of transmission of the disease from person to person.
