After successfully extracting fragments from beneath the solid rock, paleontologists in the United States now speculate that this dinosaur existed more than 76 million years ago and belonged to the family Tyrannosauridae, the family that includes Tyrannosaurus rex.

‘Description of this taxon provides insight into how it evolved in Tyrannosaurinae, strengthens previous hypotheses of anagenesis within Daspletosaurus, and increases the resolution with which the evolution of this lineage can be reconstructed,’ the researchers wrote in a paper. published last week in Paleontology and evolutionary sciences.
