Scientists aim to bring woolly mammoths back to life

American scientists decided to return woolly mammoths to Earth, who inhabited it about 250 thousand years ago and lived in Europe, Asia and North America.

Good ones news for lovers of wildlife – soon people will be able to see real mammoths with their own eyes! The American company Colossal Biosciences intends to make an incredible breakthrough in history and “revive” woolly mammoths. Scientists want to do this by crossing the species’ DNA with Asian elephants, which are their closest descendants.

This is reported Independent.

This year, the project attracted $75 million in investments, and if the company’s plans are successful, then the woolly mammoth or its closest copy will reappear on the planet in 6 years.

The researchers emphasize that this species disappeared largely due to the ice age, which reduced their habitat, as well as because of people who hunted animals.

If woolly mammoths are returned to Earth, then the question arises whether it can become part of the meat production in the world.

The company does not talk about such a prospect, but representatives focused on the environmental benefits and noted that such animals can be beneficial. In particular, for the soil, since they spread seeds and microbes when they travel tens of kilometers. And the healthier the soil, the more pastures there will be and the more carbon will go into the atmosphere.

But not everyone agrees that the plan to “revive” the moments is successful, since such a step can lead to changes on the planet and the question will arise whether it was worth interfering with the Earth’s climate system.
