In the week of 11 to 17 October, the overall incidence of GP consultations for flu-like symptoms remained stable at 73 consultations per 100,000 inhabitants per week. This is reported by health institute Sciensano on Wednesday in the weekly bulletin about respiratory infections. There was a significant decrease in the 15-64 age group.

The week before (4-10 October) it was reported that there were 95 consultations per 100,000 inhabitants for flu-like complaints. “In fact, there is no flu in the country yet. 44 percent of patients with flu symptoms tested positive for Covid-19,” a spokesperson explained.
In order to speak of a flu epidemic, the epidemic threshold must be exceeded for two weeks. The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control set the threshold this year at 128 people per 100,000 inhabitants affected by (symptoms of) the disease.
