“School year ends August 31” – Suriname Herald

The holiday scheme for schools has been adjusted for this school year. The school year ends on August 31, while for this academic year the Pentecost holiday lapses. The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (MinOWC) says that from 1 June the school doors will be opened for the test and exam classes of primary, VOJ and VOC education. Schools along the eastern border have not yet been opened. Parents and caregivers must await further instructions from MinOWC.

With due observance of the COVID-19 protocols, students will visit the school according to normal school hours. It has been decided that the students will be divided over various classrooms within the school building. The intention is that after evaluation of the first week in June and in coordination with Public Health, the lower years of each level will alternately resume the educational process. This also depends on the available space within the school, is further stated in the announcement.

Parents and guardians of students of the lower grades are called upon to follow the instructions of the school management. The school management will notify when the children have to visit the school. In addition, the MinOWC reports that the canteens in schools are not opened to prevent students from going into groups and thereby not taking into account the social distance.
