Rome, June 26, 2020 – It’s official: the September 14 if you return to school. The last step, the green light to reopening guidelines from the State-Regions conference, it arrived this afternoon. All agree, except for De Luca’s Campania.

Conte and Azzolina
“We no longer tolerate chicken coop classes,” Prime Minister Conte said at a press conference to illustrate the School floor. At his side the Minister for Education Lucia Azzolina. The prime minister reiterated that the closure for Covid was a “painful choice” and that the school is “at the center of government policy”. And the executive has allocated “an additional billion in new investments” to start “in complete safety with a more modern, safe and inclusive school”.
The Azzolina instead announces that from July teachers’ salaries will grow “by 80-100 euros”. And with the funds allocated “up to 50 thousand people can be hired” between teachers and non “with a fixed-term contract”. As for the issue of the administrative elections scheduled for September 20, the minister explains that “a discussion is underway to use other premises” and that “the Local Authorities will decide together with the Ministry of the Interior”. La Azzolina confirms the restart with a meter of distance between teacher and pupils and the staggered entrances. Aligned with Conte on chicken coop classes, as well as for the Scampia model apartment-schools. “Ensuring a proper school is a challenge that we must win”, assure minister and premier.
The reactions
“An excellent result, in the awareness that the reopening of schools is the first sign of a country that really starts again”. the first comment of Stefano Bonaccini, governor of Emilia-Romagna and president of the Conference of the Regions. Satisfied Azzolina: “Complex work but done all together. Made good policy for the good of the school. Important result”, he says.
No by De Luca to the guidelines. “We will not give the agreement, we will not say that we agree with the measures that will be taken,” said the governor of Campania before the conference, reiterating our “firm criticism of the Minister of Education for which the school problems they have become marginal with respect to political politics “. And he added: “We will not agree because we consider the vote on September 20 irresponsible and the staff has not been defined”. Campania was the only region against the plan. “We will convince them too,” said Azzolina.

And the School plan 2020-2021 that, as regards the measures of distancing, refers to an indication of the Cts. In particular, it is stated that “physical distancing (understood as 1 meter between the pupils’ buccal rhymes) remains a point of primary importance in prevention actions”. So no longer between bench to bench, but a meter between “buccal rhymes”, that is the mouths of the students. Thus the distance between one row and the other is reduced, gaining space. Obviously the same will be true for professors who will not be able to get close to a meter from the pupils.
When does school start
It had been in the air for days, today the official arrived. “The schools will reopen on September 1 for the recovery courses and on the 14 there is the real reopening”, says Undersecretary of Education Peppe De Cristofaro, who spoke at SkyTg24. “On 20 September – he adds – I really hope that we can do what many are asking, that is to look for alternative places to schools to carry out the elections. Otherwise it would honestly be a punch in the eye and a real hoax. I hope it will be resolved positively” .
