Jens Petter Hauge was an unused reserve for Eintracht Frankfurt and got to see scandal scenes from the bench when his teammates beat Royal Antwerpen 1-0 in the Europa League.
An overtime penalty gave Goncalo Paciencia the chance to score, but his header was tipped over the bar by the visitors’ keeper.
Eintracht keeper Kevin Trapp had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game.
– This does not belong in football, said Eintracht coach Oliver Glasner.
The penalty kick was awarded after Dinis Almeida fouled Jesper Lindström.
– We are relieved now. It was hard work to secure this victory, Glasner said.
Eintracht Frankfurt is number two in their group with four points, two behind Greek Olympiakos who impressed with 3-0 away against Fenerbahçe in the arena where Norway will play World Cup qualifiers next week.
Before the match in Antwerp, it was German supporters who caused trouble. According to the Belga news agency, one of Royal Antwerp’s supporter bars was stormed and vandalized.
