Christian Streich has reached a point in his career where he can rightly be called an institution. The SC Freiburg coach has been in office for eight and a half years and has become one of the most formative figures in the Bundesliga during this time.

Since Streich followed Marcus Sorg in the winter of 2011/12, he and his team have won 306 points in 250 Bundesliga games. He has the best point average (1.22 per game) of all coaches in Freiburg’s Bundesliga history. Considerable numbers given the fact that the SCF traditionally uses modest means and the Freiburg squad was never one of the most well-known in comparison to the competition.

Freiburg can hope for the Europa League
Freiburg is playing a good role again in the current season and has even slight hopes of qualifying for the Europa League. This is largely thanks to Streich and his team of coaches, consisting of the assistants Lars Voßler, who had also been an assistant at U 19 Streichs, Patrick Baier, who previously also worked in the SC youth division, and the former Freiburg resident Professional Florian Bruns (44 Bundesliga games, 2 goals; a second division game from 1999 to early 2003). Goalkeeper trainer Andreas Kronenberg and athletic trainer Daniel Wolf complete the group.

Prank is not just the face of this team, but the face of the entire SC Freiburg. His authentic, emotional manner has won him many fans not only in Breisgau. He received various awards for his work. In 2013 he was awarded the coaching award for German football. The sports magazine Kicker named him “Man of the Year” in 2017 and in the same year he was also named “Book Lover of the Year”. The Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels honored Streich’s commitment to the promotion of books and reading.

Streich, who has worked for SC Freiburg in various functions since 1995, comes from a region of successful coaches. He was born in 1965 in Weil am Rhein, the neighboring town of Lörrach, where Ottmar Hitzfeld comes from. Joachim Löw’s birthplace Schönau is less than 30 kilometers as the crow flies.
In Freiburg they are happy to have a prank. In February 2019, he extended his contract with his team of trainers. Everything looks like the character head will remain a whole hamlet for the SCF and the Bundesliga.
