Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD pointed out that the elections were certainly colored by fraud, including the elections during the administration of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).
He communicated this in response to SBY’s statement that he had received information that the 2024 elections were expected to be dishonest and fair.

“Regardless of whether or not there are allegations by Pak SBY, the election must have been tainted by fraud. There was also a lot of fraud during Pak SBY’s time. As a judge of the Constitutional Court (MK) at that time, I knew that, “Mahfud said in a written statement on Thursday (9/22).
The former President of the Constitutional Court said that election fraud when SBY was in power was not perpetrated by the government against political parties, but to cheat among political party supporters as electoral competitors. This was demonstrated when there was a lawsuit against the election results in the Constitutional Court for the results of the votes obtained by other parties.
“There are also those who have sued because they felt deceived by party members,” he said.
Mahfud therefore distinguishes between electoral fraud during the New Order era under Suharto’s government and the current era of reform. During the New Order era, he said, the fraud was carried out directly by the authorities.
“In the era of the New Order, the cheating was vertical, now the cheating is horizontal between groups of people who both participate in elections,” he said.
Previously, SBY had stated that it would “come off the mountain” in the face of the 2024 general election.
SBY’s statement was released at the 2022 National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in downtown Jakarta on Thursday (15/9).
“Cadres, why do I have to go down the mountain to face the upcoming general elections of 2024? I have heard, I know, that there are signs that the 2024 elections may be dishonest and unfair,” SBY said.
