Saxony: The rules for daycare and school are so strict

From May 18, all children can regularly return to daycare and primary school! However, many strict rules must be observed.

However, many strict rules must be observed. All other pupils in secondary schools can also go to school at least temporarily.

“Especially for parents of small children, the time when daycare centers and schools were closed was extremely stressful. For many, the pain threshold has been reached,” said Minister of Culture Christian Piwarz (44, CDU). “We are responsible for this solution.”

The concept was developed with infectiologists, among others. One thing is clear: It applies until the summer holidays – at least!

The magic word is: clear separation of classes or groups in permanently assigned rooms and with permanent support staff. How big they are will be decided on site.

Advantage: In a corona case, only a clearly defined group has to be quarantined.

“A meeting of children of different groups and classes must be strictly avoided both in the buildings and in the open spaces,” said Piwarz.

For many weeks, the daycare centers were also dense in Saxony. This pushed children and parents to their limits.

Saxony is taking a different route than other federal states that rely on distance and small groups.

The whole thing would only work if everyone strictly followed the rules – otherwise the facility could be shut down again if the number of infections increased, warned the minister.

That applies:

  • Only symptom-free children are allowed in the facilities. Every signature, parents must certify EVERY day that their entire household is symptom-free. Otherwise no access! A certificate helps with hay fever. The staff must also be healthy.
  • Parents are not allowed to enter the facilities. You must wear mouth / nose protection when bringing and picking up (in clearly defined zones), this is also recommended for educators and teachers. Children do not have to wear a mask. Stricter hygiene rules also apply.
  • Restrictions on childcare and opening times are possible. Piwarz: “If possible, parents are therefore asked not to exhaust the childcare times.”

Secondary schools: Here, a model applies, alternating between lessons at school (at least once a week under strict conditions) and learning at home.
