The researchers examined the financial impact that this diet would have on the income of the population and found that the Mediterranean diet could help you save up to 7000 lei annually compared to the Western diet.

These findings highlight the economic advantages of this dietary pattern, which involves eating healthy fats, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes and protein.

To reach this conclusion, the research team at UniSA examined the nutritional profile and weekly expenditure of three diets: the Mediterranean diet, the Australian Healthy Eating Guide and the Western diet defined as a diet high in sodium, saturated fat and ultra- processed.

Participants who followed the Mediterranean diet enjoyed numerous health benefits, but also managed to save approximately 7,000 lei per year compared to participants who followed a Western diet.
