Saudi Arabia Urges UN Security Council to Create Independent Palestine

New York

In the Security Council forum United Nations (UN), Saudi Arabia calls for the creation of a state Palestine independent to protect the rights of the Palestinian people. The Saudis insisted UN Security Council to take a firm stand against the occupation Israel in the Palestinian territory.

As reported by Al Arabiya, Thursday (25/1/2024), the call was made by Saudi Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed el-Khereiji when speaking at the UN Security Council open debate forum discussing the “Situation in the Middle East” which was held on Wednesday (24/1) local time.

According to news agency reports Saudi Press Agency (SPA), El-Khereiji condemned the forced displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and rejected Israel’s self-defense statements as a reason to continue bombing the Gaza Strip, triggering mass displacement in the Palestinian enclave.

The UN humanitarian agency OCHA, on Tuesday (23/1) local time, reported that Israeli forces had issued a new evacuation order for one part of the city of Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, which hosts around half a million residents and refugees.

The order came as the World Food Program (WFP) warned that Gazans were facing “catastrophic food insecurity”. Meanwhile, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres criticized Israel for its rejection of the two-state solution.

El-Khereiji, at the UN Security Council forum, warned about the worsening situation in the Gaza Strip, and urged the council to take concrete steps to stop Israel’s military aggression and indiscriminate bombing of unarmed civilians.
