Saudi Arabia limits use of mosque loudspeakers

Saudi Arabia restricts the use of loudspeakers in mosques. Currently, loudspeakers in Saudi mosques can only be used for azan and ikamah.

As reported Gulf NewsThe Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs, Anullarif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, released a circular regarding the restrictions on the use of loudspeakers to all mosques on Monday (24/5).

In the circular, Al-Sheikh also emphasized that the volume of the loudspeakers should only be limited to one-third of the full capacity of the device.

Al-Sheikh emphasized that his party has prepared harsh sanctions for anyone who violates this rule.

Saudi local media, Saudi Gazette, reported that Al-Sheikh established this rule after his ministry monitored the use of loudspeakers in various mosques that are often used to say prayers.

According to Al-Sheikh’s leading ministry, votes were from loudspeaker it disturbs patients, parents, and children who live in houses around the mosque.

In addition, interruptions often occur in the middle of a prayer reading, causing confusion among those who listen.

Al-Sheikh also released this circular referring to Sharia, in which the Prophet Muhammad stated that all people pray only to Allah, so they should not harm others.

Still referring to the Sharia, Al-Sheikh stated that the voice of the imam should only be heard clearly by people inside the mosque. According to him, the voice of the imam does not need to be heard to the houses around the mosque.

Furthermore, Al-Sheikh also considers there is a risk of insulting the Qur’an when its verses are recited, while others do not listen.

The Saudi Gazette reports that this circular also complies with the fatwa of Sheikh Muhammad Bin Saleh Al-Othaimeen that loudspeakers should not be used except for the call to prayer and prayer.

In addition, the Senior Ulema Council of Saudi Arabia has issued a similar fatwa regarding restrictions on the use of mosque loudspeakers.
