Relaxation of rules for duty free markets

The officials also informed that the authority has set up procedures for establishing duty-free markets at air, sea and land ports in accordance with the Uniform Customs Law for GCC countries, which contains provisions related to the operation of duty-free markets free. The new law heralds further relaxations of the current provisions relating to duty-free markets. Free markets will be allowed at airports and at the country’s land and sea borders. Officials said this will provide an opportunity to make products available in the international market on the market through the marketplace. Officials also announced further easing of requirements related to the operation of duty-free shops, operating licenses and other related regulations.
Local products are also available in duty free shops
The cabinet meeting had previously agreed to set up duty free shops for those entering and leaving the country as per the requirements. Following this, the authority clarified that the necessary rules and regulations have been formulated. There are also plans to expand them into duty-free shops that cater to passengers’ needs. Along with this, it will help in the promotion of local products by providing sales facilities to local businesses in duty free shops, the authority said. The authority stressed that the new decision will help improve logistics services and support supply chains serving duty-free markets by providing a variety of travel shopping goods and products.
The stores will be set up in multiple centres
The duty free shops are currently operating in the passenger lounges of the departure terminals of Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport, Riyadh King Khalid International Airport, Dammam King Fahd International Airport and Medina Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Airport . As part of the new concessions, duty-free shops will be opened as needed at multiple entry points in coordination with various departments at airports and ports. Duty free shops are exempt from customs duties and other taxes under the Free Market Act of the Uniform Customs Act. The authority also clarified that the level of tax reduction will vary from country to country depending on the location of the duty free shops .
