Singer Sara Bareilles has landed the lead role in a new comedy series from Tina Fey: Girls5eva.
The series revolves around a girl group that was briefly successful in the nineties, but whose career then ended in a doldrum. Decades later, when a rapper decides to revive the music, the group regains attention and tries to become famous for a second time.
Variety reports that Bareilles, 40, is playing Girls5eva member Dawn. After success ended in the 1990s, she started working in a small Italian restaurant in New York.
Bareilles received worldwide attention when they hit the charts in 2007 Love Song released. She went on to win another Grammy Award and was nominated for multiple Emmy Awards.
Girls5eva is produced by Fey (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) en Robert Carlock (30 Rock). Meredith Scardino (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) writes the story of the comedy.
Other protagonists have not yet been announced. It is also unclear when the series will be released.
