His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, stressed that sustainability is an established approach in the UAE since its founding by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, pointing out that the issue of climate change is one of the priorities of the UAE, which has taken important steps, strategies, initiatives and projects to advance the transformation. Towards renewable energy and confronting the phenomenon of climate change until it became a global platform for climate action and established a new history of climate action that represents an actual beginning to achieving the goals, especially the planet’s temperature not exceeding the limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
His Excellency pointed out that the UAE was keen to achieve a balance between development on the one hand, and maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe environment on the other hand. Today, thanks to the wise directives of the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, the State The UAE has become an effective and competent leader in global efforts aimed at reducing the repercussions of climate change at the regional and international levels.
This came during His Excellency’s visit to the pavilions held on the sidelines of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which is being held in Expo City Dubai until December 12.
During his tour of a number of pavilions in the Green Zone, His Excellency and his accompanying delegation were briefed on models of projects and the latest innovations and products in the field of confronting the effects of climate change and promoting sustainable climate action, in addition to success stories and environmental experiences.
His Excellency’s tour included the “Legacy from the Land of Zayed” pavilion, organized by the Ministry of Education, which was designed to highlight the essential role of the education sector and national universities in the country in enhancing the awareness of all participants in the educational process about environmental challenges and ways to confront them. The pavilion also highlights the key role of education in building generations capable of addressing the issue of climate change and reducing its effects, as the UAE has been keen to launch many educational initiatives in support of all these steps, the most prominent of which is the “Green Education” initiative, which constitutes a platform for qualifying future generations. To lead the climate action process and enrich their knowledge in this field.
His Excellency inspected the pavilions of the Ministry of Industry, Energy, Mubadala, Masdar, DEWA, Etisalat and other national institutions and companies, and was briefed on the most important advanced solutions that they are developing and applying in order to achieve the country’s goals to reach carbon neutrality.
His Excellency Saqr Ghobash also visited the Youth Pavilion, which provides the world’s youth with the ability to effectively contribute to drawing up government policies and making international decisions on climate issues, and enhancing mechanisms for their meaningful participation, as well as inspiring and empowering them through the exchange of experiences and practices on a global level in one place that brings them together and unifies their efforts. And work to highlight young people’s ideas and innovative initiatives that will enrich the climate action process and provide a global model for climate projects.
At the conclusion of his tour, His Excellency praised the level of organization of the conference and the accompanying exhibitions and events, in addition to the level of international participation, which highlights the capabilities that the country possesses in organizing international events, events and conferences according to the highest standards.
