Santa Cabrini Hospital will soon be renovated

Work at the Santa Cabrini Hospital located in the CIUSSS de l’Est-de-Montréal sector should begin in 2022, Minister of Health Christian Dubé announced on Monday afternoon.

A promise made by his predecessor Gaétan Barrette in 2018. The current Minister of Health, for his part, guarantees that in 2022 the work will be set in motion. “We are starting work in 2022. The parking lot, which was supposed to be a multi-level parking lot, is put back under the building. We’re starting to dig next year, ”explained Christian Dubé at a press conference.

To do so, Quebec will invest $ 90 million to rebuild the operating rooms of the hospital center.

The Santa Cabrini emergencies are the worst in Quebec, according to the government.

Minister Dubé acknowledged that the file for the reconstruction of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital, also located in the CIUSSS de l’Est-de-Montréal sector, was urgent. The hospital accommodates 10% of the entire Quebec population, but falls into ruins.

“For us, Maisonneuve-Rosemont is a priority,” Minister Dubé confirmed on Monday.

This announcement comes after a rather difficult weekend for the two hospitals in the east of the city, when the CIUSSS de l’Est-de-Montréal asked to avoid the emergencies of the two hospitals.

An announcement coming soon

“Mr. Dubé said that there would be an announcement by September for the location of the next Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital, very well, I noted it, ”said Vincent Marissal, Member of Parliament for Quebec Solidaire in Rosemont.

Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital is obsolete and staff have been asking for the construction of a new hospital for years.

“I waited 12 hours last week just to get treatment,” said a citizen.

“It has decreased a lot,” explained another citizen met by TVA Nouvelles. If you want a date, it takes time. If you don’t have a family doctor, you don’t have an appointment, ”he added.
